In 2012, a food crisis developed in the Sahel region of north Africa.
Sakabala village in the Kolokani region of Mali was one of the villages the Malian Red Cross Society targeted in the emergency response operation.
As well as distributing food supplies, Red Cross volunteers were trained in nutrition and hygiene. They visited communities hit hard by the food crisis, providing information on how people could help protect their health and prevent malnutrition.
